Mobile Suspension & Steering Repair in San Diego
A worn suspension is more than a comfort problem — bad shocks ruin tires, ball joints fail without warning, and loose tie rods make the steering wander. San Diego Pro Mobile replaces struts, shocks, control arms, sway bar links, tie rods, and ball joints at your driveway. Most pairs of shocks or struts are done in a couple of hours, with proper torque on every fastener.

What You Need to Know
Suspension wear is sneaky — it happens so gradually that you adapt to it. You stop noticing the bounce, the slight pull, the clunk over the same speed bump. Then you drive a friend's car and realize yours feels like a boat. Worn shocks add 10-15 feet to stopping distance and chew up tires from the inside out. Worn tie rods or ball joints can fail without warning at freeway speed.
Symptoms by Component
Bad shocks/struts: bouncy ride, nose dive on braking, body roll in corners, cupped tire wear. Bad tie rods: loose steering wheel feel, wandering on the freeway, inner tire edge worn. Bad ball joints: clunk over bumps, popping when turning at low speed, knock during braking. Bad bushings: clunks from the rear, loose feel over rough roads. Bad sway bar links: rattle over washboard pavement, especially at low speed. We do a bounce test and a hands-on inspection — most of these are visible or feelable in a few minutes.
How the Job Goes On-Site
We jack the car, support on stands, pull the wheel, and inspect every component. For struts: unbolt the top hat, unbolt the lower knuckle, drop the old strut, install the new pre-assembled unit (we use loaded struts to skip spring compression — much safer in a driveway). For tie rods: count the threads on the old one, install the new one to the same length, torque to spec. Most pair-of-strut jobs run 2-3 hours. Inner tie rods take an hour per side.
Price and Alignment
A pair of front loaded struts typically runs $700-$1,400 installed depending on the vehicle. Rear shocks: $400-$800 a pair. Outer tie rods: $250-$400 per side. Ball joints: $300-$600 per side. After we replace any steering component or strut, you need an alignment — we send you to a trusted alignment shop locally (usually $100-$150) because we do not carry a 4-wheel alignment rack in the van. If we replace something during a brake job we will tell you up front.

Call (619) 853-3823Where We Work
Suspension work needs flat ground and room to set jack stands, so we usually need a driveway or a wide flat parking spot. We cover all our San Diego service areas including Kearny Mesa, Mira Mesa, Clairemont, Mission Valley, and Chula Vista. Apartment underground parking with low clearance usually does not work — let us know the spot ahead of time.
Suspension & Steering Repair Questions, Answered
Most common questions we get about suspension & steering repair in San Diego.
How do I know suspension is worn?
Bouncy ride, clunks over bumps, nose-dive on braking, uneven tire wear, or the car wanders on the freeway. We confirm with a hands-on check.
Should I replace shocks in pairs?
Yes. Mixing a new shock with a worn one on the same axle makes handling unpredictable and uneven.
Do I need an alignment after suspension work?
Tie rods, control arms, or struts that affect camber — yes. Shocks only — usually no. We tell you which case you are in.
Can you do lifted or lowered vehicles?
Most of them, yes. Just tell us up front so we know what to expect.
How much does a strut replacement cost in San Diego?
A pair of loaded front struts typically runs $700-$1,400 installed depending on the vehicle. Rear shocks usually run $400-$800 a pair. Tie rods are $250-$400 per side, and ball joints $300-$600 per side. We quote a firm number after the on-site inspection.
Can you do suspension work in an apartment parking lot?
In an open above-ground lot with flat pavement, usually yes. Underground garages with low clearance, no — we need overhead clearance to use jack stands safely. Send a photo of your spot if you are not sure.
