Smog-Related Repairs in San Diego
California smog is strict. A failed smog test, a check engine light related to emissions, or a vehicle that is not ready to pass — those need real diagnostic work, not parts thrown at the dash. [CONFIRM: do they offer smog check / smog repair? CA STAR-certified?] San Diego Pro Mobile handles emissions-related diagnosis and repair at our shop at 7898 Ostrow St.

Smog-Related Repairs at Our Kearny Mesa Shop
Catalytic Converter Diagnosis
P0420 / P0430 cat efficiency codes — we test the cat and the upstream/downstream O2 sensors before recommending the (expensive) cat replacement.
O2 Sensor Replacement
Failed O2 sensors are one of the most common smog-related repairs. We replace them with quality OE-spec sensors.
EVAP System Diagnosis
P0440-series EVAP codes — gas caps, purge valves, vent valves, cracked lines. We smoke-test the system to find the actual leak.
Misfire Diagnosis
Misfires cause smog failures fast. We diagnose the actual cylinder, find the cause, fix it.
Drop-Off Process
From check-in to keys back — what happens at the shop.

Repair and drive cycle
We repair, then drive the vehicle through the proper monitor-readiness cycle so it is ready to re-test.
California smog is a real test
CA smog requires the vehicle to pass a visual inspection (no missing or modified emissions parts), a functional inspection (check engine light off, all monitors ready), and an emissions test. Failing any one of those fails the whole test. Most failures we see are check engine lights tied to specific codes.
Common codes we fix
P0420 / P0430 (cat efficiency below threshold), P0171 / P0174 (system lean), P0300-series (random misfire), P0440-series (EVAP leak), O2 sensor circuit codes. Each one has a real diagnosis path — we follow it instead of throwing parts.
Driving the readiness monitors
After any repair that clears codes, the vehicle has to complete a specific drive cycle for the OBD monitors to read "ready." Show up at a smog station before the monitors are ready and you fail for that alone. We complete the drive cycle for you when needed.

Smog-Related Repairs Questions
The most common questions we hear about smog-related repairs in San Diego.
I failed smog in California — what now?
Bring the failure printout to us. It tells us what failed (visual, functional, or emissions). We diagnose the cause, quote the repair, fix it, and run the readiness monitors so it can re-test.
Why won't my check engine light pass smog?
A check engine light is an automatic smog failure in California — no exceptions. We diagnose the code, fix it, then run a drive cycle until the monitors are ready before you re-test.
Will clearing the code fix it for smog?
No. Clearing the code resets the readiness monitors, and California requires all monitors to be "ready" before they will issue a pass. Clearing right before a test will fail you for incomplete readiness. We fix the issue and complete the drive cycle the right way.
Do you actually do the smog test?
[CONFIRM: do you offer the smog check itself, or only the repairs? STAR-certified test-only or test-and-repair?] If we do not do the test on site, we partner with a smog station nearby and tell you where to go after the repair.
How much does it cost to fix a smog failure?
Wildly variable. An O2 sensor is one range, a catalytic converter is another (especially with California-compliant cats). We diagnose first and quote in writing — no surprises.
