Transmission Repair & Service in San Diego
If your transmission is slipping, flaring between shifts, banging into gear, or leaving red fluid in the driveway, it is shop work — not mobile. Transmissions weigh 150 to 400 pounds and have to come out from under the car on a transmission jack. San Diego Pro Mobile handles fluid services, valve-body work, and full removal-and-replacement at our shop at 7898 Ostrow St.

Transmission Service & Repair at Our Kearny Mesa Shop
Fluid & Filter Service
Drain-and-fill or full exchange with the correct OE-spec fluid. Wrong fluid kills transmissions — we use the right one.
Diagnostic Scan & Road Test
We scan transmission codes, log shift behavior, and road-test before recommending a rebuild or replacement.
Removal & Replacement
Reman or used transmission installed on the shop lift with a transmission jack. The right tools for the job.
Mount & Cooler Lines
When the trans comes out we check the mounts, cooler lines, and flexplate. Doing it once, doing it right.
Drop-Off Process
From check-in to keys back — what happens at the shop.
- 1
Drop off & check-in
Tell us your symptoms — slipping, shudder, hard shifts, no reverse. We log it and put it on the lift.
- 2
Diagnose
Scan, fluid check, road test if it is safe. We tell you whether it is a service, a valve body, a rebuild, or a replacement.
- 3
Quote and approve
Written quote for parts and labor. You approve before we order anything or start tearing it apart.
- 4
Install & verify
New or rebuilt unit installed, fluid filled, road test, scan for codes. You drive away with a transmission that shifts right.
Symptoms that mean transmission, not engine
Slipping (engine revs but the car does not pull), flaring between gears, hard or delayed engagement when you put it in drive or reverse, shudder under light throttle, no movement at all, or red ATF puddles under the car. Any of those, bring it to the shop. If the issue is more about the check engine light or driveability, we can start with a mobile diagnostic and decide from there.
Why this is shop work, not mobile
A transmission weighs 150 to 400 pounds. It comes out from the bottom of the vehicle, on a transmission jack, under a lift. You also need to support the engine while it is out. None of that is safe or practical in a driveway. This is the textbook example of when the shop is the right call instead of mobile.
New, rebuilt, or used?
For most daily drivers we install a quality reman unit or a low-mile used unit. Full in-house rebuilds make sense for some performance cars and older trucks. We talk through the options at drop-off and quote both when it makes sense, so you can decide.

Transmission Service & Repair Questions
The most common questions we hear about transmission service & repair in San Diego.
How long does a transmission rebuild take?
A reman or used transmission swap is usually 2 to 4 working days. A full in-house rebuild takes longer — 5 to 10 days depending on the unit and parts availability. We give you a real timeline at drop-off, not a moving target.
How much does a transmission cost in San Diego?
It depends heavily on the vehicle. A reman automatic for a common Toyota or Honda is in one range, a CVT replacement is in another, a heavy-duty truck transmission is more. We quote in writing after we diagnose, so you see real numbers before approving anything.
Do I really need a new transmission?
Not always. Sometimes a fluid service, a solenoid, or a valve body fixes it. Sometimes it really is gone. We diagnose first and tell you straight — we do not sell rebuilds people do not need.
Will a fluid change fix a slipping transmission?
Sometimes, if caught early. Once a transmission is slipping badly, fresh fluid will not bring it back. We will say so up front instead of charging you for a service that will not fix the problem.
Do you do CVTs?
Yes. CVTs are common on Nissan, Honda, Subaru, and Toyota. They need specific procedures and the exact fluid. We follow OE spec.
